2019 RESC Meets*

Division E Championships @ RESC, 7/20/19

On a sweltering, record-setting morning at Regency, the Bannockburn Dolphins scored an upset victory in the Division E championship meet. The Dolphins did not win the overall Division E championship because they won just two of five dual meets and finished fourth at Relay Carnival. The overall title went to Clarksburg Village, which finished a close third at the Divisional meet. The Sailfish finished fifth at Divisionals (led by an amazing nine individual event champions) and end the season in fifth place in Division E.

The big stars for Regency on Saturday were Kyle Wang and Noah Rutberg, who accounted for seven individual Division E titles. Kyle won all four of his events and broke his own pool record in 11-12 Boys 50 Fly.

Noah won three individual titles and crushed RESC team records in all four of his individual events. He took down team records in 15-18 Boys 100 Free (which had been held by Zack Einhorn since 2016) and 50 Fly (held since 1998 by Scott St. Clair), plus his own records in 100 Back and 100 IM. Noah's winning swim in Back also topped his own pool record.

Also winning Division E titles for the Sailfish were Thomas Pelletier in 13-14 Boys 100 IM and Stevie Linehan-Reckford in 13-14 Boys 50 Breast. Stevie took down the team record that had been held by Gaoxing Cosgrove since 2016. Alexander Wen also went under Gaoxing's record in finishing 2nd to Stevie.

The Boys Open 200 Medley Relay (Noah, Gaoxing, Alexander Vlasov and Valentine Vlasov) kicked off the record-breaking morning by topping the RESC team record while finishing 3rd in that event.

Kudos also to several outstanding performances by visiting swimmers, including three pool records. Robin Hood's Daniel Fry broke one of the oldest marks on the RESC record board: the pool record in 8 and Under Boys 25 Free that had been held by Regency's Jim Hauschild since 1979. In 8 and Under Boys 25 Fly, Bannockburn's Brody Ulrich broke the pool record that Regency's Noah Rutberg had held since 2011. And in 15-18 Girls 100 IM, Bannockburn's Sophie Duncan broke the pool record that had been held by Caroline McTaggart of Chevy Chase Rec since 2013.

Bannockburn -- 888
Robin Hood -- 867
Clarksburg Village -- 838.5

What a great night for Sailfish swimmers at Coaches Long Course, the annual meet that features the county's Top 8 swimmers in each event. Four Regency swimmers qualified for the meet: Kyle Wang, Noah Rutberg, Alison Kaiser and Gaoxing Cosgrove. Kyle was one of the brightest stars of the meet, winning an MCSL championship in 11-12 Boys 100 Fly and finishing 3rd in 11-12 Boys 100 Free. Noah blew away the competition in 15-18 Boys 200 Back, winning by 5 1/2 seconds to pick up another MCSL championship. Congrats also to Alison (6th in 15-18 Girls 200 Breast) and Gaoxing (7th in 15-18 Boys 200 IM). Great job, Sailfish!
